Butterfly pics

I keep falling behind on my butterfly picture updates.  These were taken at least a week ago!  I now need to take more pics as the butterfly has changed.  I am approaching the finish line and I can't wait to see the finished project in the garden.

Also, if you did not notice I have started a 2nd page labeled "Some of my art".  It's right under my blog title and showcases some of my recent artsy stuff.  I will be updating with more as time goes on.

March Madness

There is nothing like falling ill when you have a great project to work on.  I am finally on the rebound and this is where I am at on my B-E-A-utiful monarch butterfly.  I made a stencil out of some old thin poster paper...the design is mine.  Then I tried using some artist grade acrylics for the base coat but after 3 applications I still didn't have a saturated/opaque bas to work with.  So off to Lowe's I went.  I picked up 3 nice colors and although it still took a couple of coats for the base orange I'm almost ready for the next step (1 wing side to base coat).

Next step gradated color on the wings, and designing the base of the stand.  Stay tuned...

Scary Weather Day

Since last April 27th anytime the threat of severe weather is mentioned my anxiety just goes off the charts.  Today is yet another very severe and unstable weather pattern across a lot of the mid west and southern states.  I am as prepared as I can be and my husband and daughter are here with me so that gives me a sense of security.  I can't even think about art right now...it would be a great distraction if I could only get to that side of my brain.

Here is my butterfly for the Huntsville Botanical Garden...it's huge! I already have my conception of the completed piece. Here are a few pics to give you an idea.

Gearing Up!

March is looking very exciting!  My calendar is packed with interesting  opportunities and fun art projects.  My goal of becoming a known artist in the community is coming to life!!!

I love to play and create but I confess when I have tried to turn it into a profitable endeavor it becomes a JOB and I don't like stress in my life if I can help it.

I enjoy making art, learning different techniques and spending quiet time lost in a world that isn't moving at break-neck speed.  All I have to do is close out the world, grab a paintbrush, put on some music and I can escape the non stop bombardment of stuff that doesn't REALLY matter.  I think the world needs to slow down once in a while.

National Children's Advocacy Center

I love children, and young adults.  They make you see things you never knew existed.  They are intelligent, full of energy and keep me feeling young.  Don't even get me started on babies!!!!  I can't help myself!
As a mom - I just don't understand "Child Abuse". My children have given me so much love over the years...I would do almost anything to see them smile.  As a woman - any physical or mental abuse directed at another for one's enjoyment is intolerable.

And so, I am volunteering with the NCAC.  I am doing an art project for their Family Block Party in April.  The theme is Superhero's and I am making a "stand in" which is a photo prop that you stand behind and poke your head through the hole.  I think the kids and families will enjoy it.  Working with the NCAC is my way of showing support and becoming the person I want to be :)
